Bear Creek Bridge
Just down Patterson Rd. you will come to find two bridges. Langham Creek Bridge and Bear Creek Bridge. According to stories throughout the internet, the bridge closest to Eldridge is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of a Civil War battle that took place in the area.
It is said that if you park your car on the bridge, you can hear either tapping sounds on your car or the tapping of soldiers boots along the bridge. We visited this same area on the evening of Oct. 29th, 2011. As you may have read from the Patterson Rd. description, it was a very busy night, lots of cars full of teenagers doing the exact same thing we were doing. We did, however get a small amount of time on this bridge with no traffic or interference. It was during that time, that I checked under the bridge and while quietly standing near it, I did hear what sounded like a clock ticking. With a lack of proper lighting, the water flowing in the creek nearby, the wind causing the branches in the trees to sway, even the car settling. There could be numerous possibilities for the sounds I heard. However, because we had a sudden onset of rambunctious teenagers looking for a thrill (and we really didn't know which direction they initially came from), we decided to pack up our gear and dismiss any possible evidence we may have caught because of the amount of contamination we would be facing during our audio review. This location, for us, was inconclusive.
If you decide to check out either location, please be careful as Patterson road is very dark. Go in a group and stay safe!
