Waverly Hills Sanitorium
WHPS traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to investigate what many in the paranormal community consider to be one of the crown jewels of haunted locations. It is a massive 150,000 square foot 5 story building constructed in the early 1900’s and opened in 1910. This place was quite an awesome sight to behold. We were joined by members of PAIN Paranormal and other friends from past investigations and it was a privilege to have them with us. Due to the size of this place the extra help was appreciated!
We divided up into teams of 3 and rotated personnel and floors every hour. One of the main features is the “Death Tunnel”, a 500 foot walk down steps to a rear area where bodies of the dead were removed from the facility. We were able to collect some EVP’s in this area and some voices were heard whispering. We have a no whisper rule to avoid contamination of evidence so this made it very exciting for us. There was also some video captured of a door that closed and opened by itself. When it closed there appears to be a latching sound but there was no doorknob. We also inspected the area for possible causes but could not find anything conclusive to debunk this evidence. There were several other doors in the vicinity and not one of them moved an inch.
One interesting situation we had was when James was roaming and documenting the teams in action, he entered the 4th floor and announced quite loudly that he was on the floor so that investigators would know it was him. He heard no reply and proceeded onward. The investigation team on that floor called back when they heard footsteps and no response. When they met up it was discovered that they were calling for each other and could not hear one another. The distance could not have been more than 150 feet, seems there was just dead space there, very interesting occurrence and we could not explain it. This was an awesome investigation, worth the trip and every minute spent inside. WHPS hopes to return to this location again someday.
